Summer is in full swing. I hope you are taking some time to get out and enjoy it along with some friends. I am trying to get into the season but I might need to work a bit harder. I recently met a friend for lunch at a local eatery that has a pool and she showed up ready to take a dip. I showed up in shorts and a t-shirt with no pool attire in sight.

:)

Such is life!

So, I hope in the midst of the summer fun you are taking time out to work on your business operations. This month I focused on sharing information that can help you to run your business better. The first blog was about workflows and why it is a good idea to have a good system in place to run your business. The benefits of having a seamless process in place to ramp your business up to the next level are so important. Next, I talked about specific tools that you can put into place right now to help run your business better. There are so many shiny objects out there that could help you run your business more efficiently. The key is to not go chase the next new thing but to select tools that solve a specific problem you have in your business and implement the tool.

Summer fun in Las Vegas is here. I hope that implementing some of the information shared in the posts above will help you to get outside and play without worrying if your business is running on all cylinders.

Keep IT Sunny!

The month of February is pretty much in the record books. It always boggles my mind how fast this month goes by. I hope you found time to work on your business this month and move it forward. If you had a busy month like I did and did not have a chance to read the blog posts that I wrote on Why It Is Important To Get Organized In Your Business and How To Do It then take a few minutes and read them. It could be just what you need to move out of a business rut. I also did a post on tools that you can use to help run your business efficiently. I hope you take the time to read and apply it to your business.

Don’t just consume and not apply. It will be a waste of your time and I know that your time is precious.

It is exciting running a business and there are so many pieces to the puzzle. As I mentioned in my last post I love tinkering with shiny new objects to see how I can use them in my business. But I recently decided to take a step back from that approach and only focus on the tools that I need right now to run my business.

Why?

The reason why I have decided to do this is to allow me to f.o.c.u.s. - follow one course until success as it relates to my tool kit. What I discovered last year is that I was running from one new shiny object to another new shiny object and I didn’t effectively apply any of the tools to my business and that left me feeling frustrated. This year I am only using tools that fit these 3 categories:

  • I need it right now

  • It fits comfortably within my current budget

  • It is easy to use

That is it. It’s not rocket science but as I started to see what entailed using a particular product I started to see that it was costing me time or money or both. That’s not productive. I need to be focused on delivering quality service and value to my clients and not becoming a Ph.D. in whatever tool that I am trying to use. I do believe there is value in becoming an expert user once you have chosen what tools you will use to run your business. It is important to map out what tools you need to use for each step in your business and then stick to that.

I love free stuff

.

Do you love free stuff? Well I am pretty sure the answer is yes. What about free stuff that you can use in your business to stay organized and keep your focus on delivering great value to your customers? Well, starting today I am going to share tools that are free or very low cost that you can use in your business. As small business owners every penny counts and any penny not spent can add up to a huge chunk of money. O.k. so the first tool is Insightly. I listened to John Lee Duma's Entrepreneur On Fire podcast today and heard him mention it and decided to check it out.  Here are some of the key features:

  • Free for up to 2 users

  • Integrates your contact management, project management and social media management within one platform

  • Has a mobile feature

  • Integrates with many other applications such as Evernote and Google Apps

I haven't signed up yet, or played around with it yet, but I shall do that over the weekend. So go check it out and let me know what you think
