How To Have Sustainable Growth & September Roundup!

Many of us started our business out of a need to solve a problem or a passion for a skill set that we have. I started my business to use my background in accounting and administration to help service-based entrepreneurs create & sustain a business that they love so they can create the lifestyle of their dreams. I am a one-woman shop and look forward to growing my business but I want to do it smart.

According to a joint study shared on Entrepreneur.com, “Roughly two-thirds of the fastest-growing startups end up failing. Research from California State University also showed that companies that had fast revenue growth performed worse, long-term than their slow-growing counterparts.”

I am sure these business owners had the best of intentions and were super-excited to scale their business to increase revenue and jumped right in. We can learn from their mistakes by applying the 5 steps below as we move along the business scaling journey.

Step One

Set S.M.A.R.T. Goals. I shared in a previous blog post that SMART stands for specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound.

Step Two

Take time to do market research on your industry and the competition to gain a better understanding of your competitive advantage or threats.

Step Three

Know your numbers. It is super important to understand where your business stands financially so that you can make good decisions. Additionally, creating a detailed business budget and financial projections are also must-haves in your business toolkit.

Step Four

Create efficiencies in your daily operations and use technology to reduce labor on repetitive tasks.

Step Five

Provide excellent customer service to your customers and ask for their feedback to improve your services.

There are many more things to consider when you are thinking about scaling your business. If you take your time and give some thought to the steps above you will be miles ahead of your competition as we sail out of the month of September. As usual, this month went by fast. People say that time flies when you are having fun so that must be true.

I truly enjoyed kissing summer goodbye and moving forward into the fall season. I hope you had a fantastic summer season and were able to get some things accomplished. This month I talked about 3 Ways To Create Measurable Goals and How Busy Entrepreneurs Can Continue To Learn New Things. If you have time for a few quick reads check them out and remember the tortoise won the race.

Happy 4th of July Early & June Roundup!

The month of June is over and the start of July is upon us. Before we usher in July let’s take a look back at the month of June to see if we are closer to reaching our goals. This month I wrote about how to set goals that are achievable, working in a state of chaos, and 3 tech tools to help you stay organized. If you didn’t get a chance to read those posts please take a few moments over the next few days to get caught up.

The month of July starts the season of summer with cookouts and outdoor gatherings. It also has one of my favorite summer holidays: The 4th of July which is one of my favorite summer holidays filled with tasty food and festive activities. It is a time to gather with friends and family to have fun! But let’s not forget the true reason why we celebrate the 4th of July:

Freedom & Liberty

There is much that can be said of those two words and I will leave that to you to ponder. The 4th of July for me is a time to celebrate being an American and feeling thankful for the soldiers on the ground and in other places that help this country to remain resilient and a beacon of hope for so many. I don’t take for granted that I was born here and for those who fought great battles to allow me to have the freedom that I enjoy today. As I eat all the summer treats and enjoy the fun of the day these sentiments will be close to my heart. If you want to learn more about the history of the 4th of July check it out here and enjoy your day my fellow Americans.

The Month of November Round Up & Happy Thanksgiving!

Today is Thanksgiving and a great time to slow down and take stock of what you are thankful for. I know many people will be celebrating with their friends & family but let’s also remember that some people will be alone so be sure to reach out to them. This time of the year is also a good time to slow down and count the many ways you are thankful to be a small business owner.

In the work world today many people had to pivot fast due to the pandemic and they jumped feet first into entrepreneurship. No matter how you arrived in the small business arena it is the best decision in the world to run your own company. I wrote a few posts this month to help you to stay focused on your goals and organized within your business. I hope you take some time to read them and apply the tips.

The life of a small business owner is hectic and fast paced with requirements to oftentimes wear many hats. We are all in this together. Take some time today to turn off the entrepreneur inside you and enjoy the festivities of the holiday and then get after it as soon as the business day starts next week.

Summer is in full swing. I hope you are taking some time to get out and enjoy it along with some friends. I am trying to get into the season but I might need to work a bit harder. I recently met a friend for lunch at a local eatery that has a pool and she showed up ready to take a dip. I showed up in shorts and a t-shirt with no pool attire in sight.

:)

Such is life!

So, I hope in the midst of the summer fun you are taking time out to work on your business operations. This month I focused on sharing information that can help you to run your business better. The first blog was about workflows and why it is a good idea to have a good system in place to run your business. The benefits of having a seamless process in place to ramp your business up to the next level are so important. Next, I talked about specific tools that you can put into place right now to help run your business better. There are so many shiny objects out there that could help you run your business more efficiently. The key is to not go chase the next new thing but to select tools that solve a specific problem you have in your business and implement the tool.

Summer fun in Las Vegas is here. I hope that implementing some of the information shared in the posts above will help you to get outside and play without worrying if your business is running on all cylinders.
